Entasis was engaged to provide upgrades to the SEI main floor lobby and guards' desk. The intent of this renovation was to create a more open, brighter inviting space that is more easily monitored for security and will complement the 2019 renovation project Entasis did for the SEI at the west end of the main corridor. Entasis worked closely with the SEI security department, CMU Marketing, and the SEI Facility management for this project.

Given this area is a main thoroughfare for building circulation and egress, Entasis performed a plan study to understand the code required egress width requirements and paths to the exits. This plan study yielded a better understanding of where we could consider alternate locations for the guards' desk while maintaining the necessary visibility needed for security personnel. By eliminating faux columns and utilizing areas of available space not needed for circulation, we made use of these available spaces for other needed amenities such as seating/waiting area, a pivot table that could be opened to function as a welcome and sign-in table for functions, and when not needed, could be closed and out of the way to be used for storage and counter display items. Coordination and implementation with the CMU marketing department for their wall mounted display was also a part of our design requirements.

Larger areas for coats, trash, and recycle bins were intentionally placed near the entrance to the lecture hall. The guards' desk was the driving aspect to this project making form, function, and clear visibility a priority. A guards' storage room was also included to provide storage space for the guards. ADA accessibility for the project was integral to the design as well as upgraded LED lighting.
