Detached Garage in Sewickley

This client had a carefully and elegantly maintained home that they dearly loved.  They acquired an adjacent lot mainly for a play area for their grandchildren but also had a need for a collectable car storage area, so it seemed suitable to add a garage to the property. When they came to us, they had some specific requirements: to create a building that looked comfortable next to their existing home by using similar materials, and including a place to store their vehicles, along with adding a workout and media space on the upper floor. We chose to locate the garage at the lower area of the site, preserving the gently rolling front yard as the play area. The steeply sloping rear of the site enabled us to house the vehicles at the first level. The storage and workout areas were able to maximize outside fresh air exposure during warm months. The upper level, framed with heavy wood timbers, utilized dormers to allow interesting windows and provide natural light to the interior.  The exposed wood framing cantilevers from the center bay to allow a deck that juts out into the wooded area below, with privacy from the road, and a delightful view of the trees beyond.
